Going through your home cleaning chores as quickly as possible is probably among your wishes. Thankfully, it does not take much to speed up your cleaning routine and fix the mistakes that are causing delays.
Following is a list of errors that are all too common and costly concerning cleaning time:
‘Top to bottom’ rule does not exist for you – carpet cleaning is a hated chore. As such, you may be tempted to get it done first. As it turns out, it should ever come after dusting your shelves or tackling the dust on the ceiling fan for instance. The reason is that dust and dirt will probably find its way back to the carpet. Redoing the chore is not a right thing to do.- You clean your windows on a sunny day – if the good weather seems inviting for some window cleaning service, you may be falling into a trap. The deal with sunny weather and window cleaning is that the sun will quickly heat up glass surfaces. In doing so, it will leave streaks from the cleaning detergent and water you use. To avoid redoing your work, choose to clean on a cloudy day.
- Washing dishes before putting in the dishwasher – while it is true that you should remove large food scraps from the plates, there is hardly need to hand-wash them. It won’t get your dishes any cleaner. Spare your time, energy and money by tossing dirty dishes straight in the dishwasher.
- You walk in your home with the shoes on – the amount of bacteria and dirt that lurks on the bottom of your shoes is alarming. It is not wise to enter your home with shoes on and spread all of that on your carpet. It will increase the amount of carpet cleaning you have to do.
- You do not let the bathroom cleaner sit for a while – when applying tile cleaner or any other bathroom cleaning product, you need to wait before scrubbing. At the very least, such products need 5 minutes to properly remove grime and stuck on soap scum and stains. If you do not give it the time to work its magic, you will be doing a lot more scrubbing. Leave the solution to sit so it can properly dissolve the spoils and you will save yourself some scrubbing action.
- You skip sorting the laundry – if you are busy with a lot of laundry, it might be tempting to skip sorting by colour. You may even do laundry by a person in an attempt to save sorting time, especially when the clothes and fabrics are of similar hue. However, pre-sorting the clothes can save you a ton of time and effort. For example, if you mix lint catchers with lint givers, like corduroy/knits and towels, you will end up picking lint from fuzzy fabrics for an hour.
These mistakes are easy to fix. However, the benefit of doing so is so grand that you will wonder how you have not paid attention until now. Your home cleaning tasks will significantly improve.
