While it is true that bathroom cleaning is on no one’s list of favourite things, it is a chore that must be done. After all, you visit the place a few times every single day and therefore need to ensure that it is clean. Otherwise, it will become a breeding ground for all sort of bacteria and germs that can potentially threaten your health. Obviously, you don’t want that to happen, so you better muster up some motivation and get to cleaning the bathroom.
What better way to step up your game than to learn of a few common mistakes and make sure you avoid them?
- You leave the toilet brush wet – undoubtedly, one of the items in your bathroom that accumulate a ton of bacteria is the toilet brush. And the reason for this is simple: the brush is mostly wet, which provides the perfect conditions for bacteria growth. What you should do instead is to allow enough time for the brush to dry up. It is simple actually: instead of placing the brush back on its holder, you should wedge it between the toilet and its seat. That way it will quickly dry. To sanitise it, give it a quick spray with some hydrogen peroxide. Doing this will also remove that annoying pool of water in the brush stand, which is also quite unsanitary.
You don’t focus on cleaning the toilet – cleaning this area of the bathroom is without a doubt very important. You need to do some dusting first so that you don’t end up with a watery mess. Foregoing the crevices around the seat screws is a major mistake that many are guilty of. Unscrew the seat, and you will be able to clean that area with ease. Then you will be able to give it the good clean it deserves.- You don’t scrub the seams – all of the areas where the faucets are connected to the counters or tiles deserve special attention. Yes, it is rather easy to wipe the faucet itself, but the same is not true for all of the areas where vertical and horizontal lines meet. Grime collects there as well after all. Cleaning those places with a toothbrush is an excellent way to get rid of the grime and other impurities there.
- You don’t wash the shower curtain and liner – while it is true the shower curtain and liner don’t require cleaning every single time you take a shower, you can bet they will get dirty over time. If you forget about them, you can expect they will grow mould and bacteria, which isn’t a pleasant thing. You can toss shower curtains in the washing machine, or simply give them a good scrub with a bathroom cleaner.
- You don’t ventilate the room/run the exhaust fan – because the environment in the bathroom is usually moist and warm, it creates the perfect conditions for mildew and mould growth. To counter that, you should open the door to ventilate and or/run the exhaust fan for a while every time you take a shower.
- You don’t do any cleaning in between – to touch upon the previous point, you should always strive to do some cleaning in-between big clean-up sessions. This sounds more difficult than it really is. Just wipe the shower area for a minute after you are done there. Don’t let toothpaste or other stains linger for too long. Doing things like that will significantly reduce the effort you need to invest in cleaning the place.
As you now know the most common bathroom cleaning mistakes, you can greatly improve your efforts to keep the area clean and fresh at all times.
